The story behind GiveRadar

Why I built GiveRadar

I've always believed small charities that tackle very specific problems in their own communities deserve more attention. The nonprofits that don't make headlines, but change lives. The problem? They are almost impossible to find. When I tried to donate to charities abroad or raise money running the New York Marathon, search engines only showed me the big names. Everything else was invisible.

That's why I built GiveRadar. A charity intelligence platform where every nonprofit can be discovered and every donor can give with confidence. My hope is that the charities doing the most good get empowered to have the biggest impact.

Frequently asked questions

What is GiveRadar?
GiveRadar is a free global charity database and research platform covering more than 7.9 million nonprofits in 103 countries (as of July 2026). It brings official government registry data from sources like the IRS, the Charity Commission, the ACNC, and the CRA into one searchable place, with integrity assessments, financials, leadership records, and reviews for every organization.
How do I check if a charity is legitimate?
Search for the charity on GiveRadar by name or registration number (such as an EIN in the US). You will see its official registration status, an integrity assessment, financial disclosures, leadership records, and any red flags. All core data comes from official government registries and tax filings.
Is GiveRadar free to use?
Yes. GiveRadar is free for donors, researchers, and nonprofits. Create a free account to access detailed financials, contact information, and officer data. Commercial developers and organizations needing high-volume programmatic access can use the paid API tiers.
How many charities does GiveRadar cover?
As of July 2026, GiveRadar covers more than 7.9 million nonprofits across 103 countries, sourced from 50+ official government registries and tax authorities including the IRS (US), the Charity Commission (UK), the ACNC (Australia), the CRA (Canada), and RUNTS (Italy). That makes it one of the largest public charity databases in the world.
What is an integrity assessment?
An integrity assessment is a 0 to 100 score of how much verified public information is available about a charity: official registration, financial disclosure, governance records, contact availability, and data recency. It measures the transparency of public data, not the quality or impact of a charity's programs, and news coverage never affects the score.
How is GiveRadar different from Charity Navigator?
Charity Navigator rates around 200,000 US nonprofits from an evaluation perspective. GiveRadar is a global charity database: more than 7.9 million organizations in 103 countries, built from each country's official registry, with financials, leadership, contact details, and integrity assessments. It is completely free for donors and researchers.
Does GiveRadar cover charities outside the United States?
Yes. GiveRadar is built as a global database. It covers charities registered in 103 countries, including the UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Italy, Brazil, and the Netherlands, each sourced from its own official government registry. Every country has a dedicated page listing its charities.
Where does GiveRadar get its data?
Core records come directly from official government registries and tax authorities such as the IRS, the Charity Commission, the ACNC, and the CRA. GiveRadar enriches these with information the charities publish themselves, such as websites and contact details, and labels the source of every data point. Nothing is estimated, and placement or scores cannot be bought.
