The purpose of the Institute is to be fulfilled separately and in cooperation with foreign and domestic educational and research institutions, in particular by the following main activities: (a) support for accredited study programmes and lifelong learning programmes; (b) promoting or implementing scientific and research, development and innovation, artistic or other creative activities; (c) implementation of programmes, courses, lectures, seminars and conferences; (d) organising public expert discussions on social and ethical issues; (e) publishing publications for both professional and lay public.
Účel ústavu je naplňován samostatně i ve spolupráci se zahraničními i tuzemskými vzdělávacími a výzkumnými institucemi především následujícími hlavními činnostmi: a) podporou uskutečňovaných akreditovaných studijních programů a programů celoživotního vzdělávání, b) podporou nebo uskutečňováním vědecké a výzkumné, vývojové a inovační, umělecké nebo jiné tvůrčí činnosti, c) uskutečňováním programů, kurzů, přednášek, seminářů a konferencí, d) pořádáním veřejných odborných diskusí o společenských a etických otázkách, e) vydáváním publikací pro odbornou i laickou veřejnost.
