How to Compare Charities
When comparing charities, focus on these key metrics:
Trust Score
GiveRadar's Trust Score (0-100) combines financial health, transparency, reputation, and governance into a single number. Higher is better, but compare within the same category — a small community organization won't score the same as a large international NGO.
Program Spending Ratio
What percentage of expenses goes directly to programs? The best charities spend 75%+ on their mission. Below 60% suggests too much goes to overhead, though some types of work legitimately cost more to deliver.
Revenue Growth
Is the charity growing or shrinking? Consistent revenue growth suggests effective fundraising and donor confidence. Declining revenue might signal problems.
Data Completeness
How much public information is available? Charities that disclose more data are generally more transparent and accountable. A profile completeness above 50% is good; above 70% is excellent.
