Hearts of Hope began with Christian volunteers serving at a Johannesburg children’s home in 1997. They witnessed the effects of institutional care and the HIV/AIDS crisis on children who lacked treatment and individualized support. In 2003, the volunteers established an ecumenical organization to create a Christian home offering continuous personal care to six orphaned and abandoned children. They purchased a house in Wendywood and subsequently expanded to four properties.
